Ikea Adventure – August 2008

I was lucky enough to have a babysitter on Saturday so I could visit my favorite hang-out, Ikea. In addition to perusing kitchen cabinets for my upcoming gutting of my microscopic kitchen, I took some photos of some of my favorite pieces.
I really love the way Ikea creates the vignettes of actual spaces. Some of them are really stunning, some are very "dorm-room." I especially enjoyed the dining-rooms that were set for shoppers. Here are my two favorites:

Here's a really neat way to bring a lot of pop to a teenager's wall by using some simple frames and a copier machine:
I also purchased the child version of the "Pello" chair. Kyle (he's 6) loves to play his Xbox 360 in it! It's the perfect size for a 6 year old and it still looks good enough to be in a modern interior setting.

I'm looking to rip out all of my high wall kitchen cabinets and will be installing a bunch of new Ikea versions which will include a pull-out pantry (it's huge), and standards with glass doors. I really liked these:
The kitchen I am planning will have a lot of stainless steel. So, of course, I loved their display with the stainless steel backsplash. It looks very clean and easy on the eyes.
When I am working on my kitchen, I will go ahead and get these for behind the door for some added stainless steel storage:

Shelving also looked hot, even the ever-present "Billy" bookshelves. Now they are offering gorgeous glass doors in various designs to match any decor possible.
And I still like the ladder shelves, which now come in a wide variety of colors. I think these would look fabulous in a child or tween's room.
I noticed also that Ikea were experimenting with different wall treatments. I was particularly attracted to their "orange" wallpapers. Here's one that I thought looked very clean and modern:
The stripey trend of theirs also extended straight through to their ambient lighting series.

Here are some other varieties that I found quite lovely. Again, Ikea can take a simple idea and re-skin them for any interior style - from country to stark modern.
As usual, I left thinking I had everything I needed. Then I realized I forgot the kitchen cart and a number of other things I really needed/wanted. I guess that means I'll have to make another trip really soon - Yippeeee!!!
